Yes there are some big differences. I’ve played guitar for going on 40 years and have tried just about every type of amp out there , tube , solid state , hybrid , you name it. I have always went back to a good old tube amp. You will find that a good tube amp is more powerful than solid state. A good 50 watt tube amp will blow away a 50 watt solid state amp almost every time. I’m talking about power at a usable volume. Tone is a matter of personal preference , of course, but if you want a sweet sounding overdrive and a crystal clear clean sound with plenty of depth then a good tube amp is the way to go. Of course there are the down sides such as maintenance. Solid state amps are basically just plug in and play but that’s not the case with tubes. tube amps need to be maintained regularly. The power tubes ( usually 6L6’s or EL34’s) need to be changed on a regular basis ( once a year or so) or when they go bad. The smaller preamp tubes don’t get nearly as hot and can usually be changed only when they go bad , if ever. If you have a tube amp it’s always a good idea to have some spare tubes on hand just in case. Another down side is the price. Your usually gonna’ pay a lot more money for a good tube with the same features and wattage as a comparable solid state amp. And you also have to figure the cost of the maintenance too. But to spite all that I will go tube over solid state any day because of the tone , power , sustain and overall musical sound produced by tubes. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that all solid state amps are junk or are bad. In fact I have tried a few that sounded pretty good but just not what I was looking for. They just couldn’t match up to the tube tone that I know and love. I mean , if I could get the sound I wanted from a solid state amp and not have to dish out all that cash for maintenance and such don’t you think I would do it? Same probably goes for most tube amp users. The fact is though , they haven’t created such a beast yet and maybe they never will. So I guess the answer to your question would be ”yes there are major differences”. And , yes they are worth the price if your looking for true tube tone and power.
i went to the rock hall and i jimi hendrix used to play the brand "acoustic" guitar for a short time. also i’ve seen a amp by the same brand at guitar center.
well first look on the internet and then look at guitar center again. That company may not exist any more.
I’m not looking for hybrids. I’m also open to other models but I do dig the Marshall tone.
You can go a combo amp, or a stack head. Both would be in the 1700-1800 range. tube amps are not cheap especially when you want the "Marshall tone," I would also suggest looking at "Orange Amps" They are about the same price as a marshall.
Combo:
Marshall JVM205C 50 Watt All-Tube 2×12 Combo guitar amplifier
Head:
Marshall 1987XL 50 Watt All-Tube Plexi Head Amplifier
I have this thing and i think itz called a zoom 105 effects for the guitar and u can make ur own effects but i dont know how to make it sound like synyster gates guitar.
he uses overdrive distortion.
look up his name on wikipedia and you’ll find all the equipment he uses.
preferably use a shecter guitar, and dont forget ernie ball skinny top heavy bottom strings, and if possible get seymour duncan invader pick ups.
on different songs he uses different effects, mostly just a tad of reverb and delay. dont forget to use neck pick ups for the lead! crank mids and bass and lower treble during solos.
I want to build a practice guitar amp for fun(I have one so don’t say just buy one)I have the seakers.
How do I make a amp?
What do I need to build one?
How much would it cost to make one?
Cool sites for amp plans?
plz try to answer all 4 questions.
here is a site for you . seems to have a fair bit of info about the questions you have asked.

I just recently bought a Fender Stratacoustic. I plugged it into my amp, but it wouldn’t play. Is there a certain amp to use on a acoustic electric or is my guitar not working?
it should play like normal.always wanted one, let me know how it works out.maybe check for open circuit, play with pickup switching etc.
Can anybody tell me why I am getting distortion from every channel of my California Blonde acoustic amp? Any repair guys out there that want to help would be greatly appreciated. I am electronically literate so please be technical.
Thanks.
Get the schematics. Make sure that your power supply voltages are correct . Feed a small signal in, and follow it with a ’scope. When to get to the stage that is causing the problem it will be readily apparent.
If you don’t have a scope take voltage readings. Anything way off indicates a problem. In many cases a small amp with a gain control can be used instead of a scope.

I prefer tubes over transistors, as do most. Neither is "better", so I encourage you to see which you like best.
I’d say a delay pedal, wah pedal, distortion, etc are all musts. What are the essential guitar effects to have and what are the best kinds?
I have an MXR carbon copy delay, Vox wah v865? MXR Distortion pedal, and ummm that’s it.
I use separate stomp boxes..I don’t care for the multi effects pedals.
My line up..in this order is….
MXR Dyna Comp
MXR Distortion +
Ibanez Tube Screamer
Boss Chorus
Boss Tremelo
Boss Digital Delay
I love Wah wahs..as long as their not over done…mainly because they’re a great tone generator…you don’t have to step on them all the time.
My old pots wah wah has gotten a bit nosiy lately, so I haven’t been using it…but it should be first in any chain.
The overdrive and distortion pedals should usually be after your wah wah, followed by the time delay devices..like choruses, delays, tremelo’s etc…, at the end of your chain.
If I could only have one pedal..it would be a tube screamer…followed by a delay, or reverb…IMHO.
Or course, the best effect, is practicing till your fingers bleed!!
Have fun!
I just bought a cheap bass, and I’m looking for a practice amp. Can I use a regular guitar amp (in case I decide to switch to electric guitar) or should I defiantly get a bass amp?
Concerning the unsure outcome of playing bass or guitar: You can play guitar through a bass amp, but not bass through a guitar amp. It’s a one way street. So get the bass amp.
Since I don’t know how interested you are in bass, getting a cheap small amp could give you a horrible sound and be a complete turnoff. Get something decent. You don’t have to spend top dollar, but go to a local shop, a Guitar Center if you have one around, and try things out. You’ll run across something you like. If you think it’s too expensive, get the name and model and look it up online. Win/win
