I’m thinking about buying an acoustic pickup for my acoustic guitar, but i can’t afford to buy an acoustic amp as well, will i be alright running it through my normal amp or will the quality suffer?
It will sound just fine – assuming you do not use any effects – but an acoustic amp will sound a little better. Not to worry.
youll be just fine on a regular amp. i promise.

An acoustic amp?
An amp is an amp.
If you play an acoustic sound through it… it will sound acoustic.
If you connect your RADIO up to it… it will sound like the RADIO.
There is a NAME BRAND called ACOUSTIC. But that’s like "FAIRLANE" for FORD.

It will work and sound ok, but an acoustic amp will sound slightly better and you should get less of a tinny noise with a acoustic if it is just for practicing and not recording the regular amp will work just as fine!

Depends on the pickup and amp. A good quality pickup designed for acoustic guitar will give a pretty good sound through a regular amp if you play around with the EQ settings a bit.
However, an amp designed for an acoustic guitar will be much more authentic. If money is an issue, go for the best quality pickup you can afford and that should give you a good, workable sound. Once you have it and are comfortable with it, take your guitar to a good music shop and try out some acoustic guitar amps versus regular amps back-to-back. See if the differences between the sounds really matter to you. You may find you like the sound through your own amp better, or you may realize that you just need to save up some more dough for an acoustic amp. Either way, enjoy your guitar!

an acoustic amp will give you better control and overall sound of your acoustic’s tone. It also depends on your pickup. You’ll be just fine with the amp you got right now tho. Once you play on a an acoustic amp you won’t want to go back tho. lol.
