I dont know, but i’d prefer the solid state amps with a ton of effects. Plus if your plugging a bunch of pedals into a tube amp anyway its gunna sound digital and thats just more to carry around. I have a Spider IV and with a little tweaking its awesome. tube amps just doesnt fit with my type of music or any for that matter. I listen to everything from Zepplin to August Burns Red and my Line 6 does the job. Soon, I bet all of the upcoming bands are gunna sound more digital as time moves on so why not get with technology.
All true tone freaks, whether you’re talking about rock’s Eric Johnson or country’s Brad Paisley (and both Johnson and Paisley play basically every genre), normally prefer tube amps and for a reason. Fender, Vox, Dr. Z–the brands can vary, but the tubes are there! Don’t get me wrong–with some tweaking, any good solid state amp can ahieve some damn good tones…they’re just not normally as warm as on a tube amp (and, in general, not as great).
But, hey–there’s certainly nothing wrong with a solid state amp as long as it’s a good one. As for effects, I normally use separate pedals as oppose to an amp’s inboard effects (with the exception of reverb)…with just the reverb on my cheap solid state Fender Champion 30, a Vox V847 Wah and a Boss DS-1 Distortion, I can achieve many rock, blues, jazz AND country tones. With a nice tube amp, I’d be able to achieve BETTER rock, blues, jazz and country tones.
Should I worry that much if I move the gear into a storage unit with no temperature control?
Of course it’s safe, what’s going to happen to the amp? The electronics aren’t going to get mucked up because of the temperature or humidity. A guitar could easily get damaged (especially an acoustic one), but sticking an amp in there is no different than sticking a tv or stereo in there.
hi guys, I want to build myself an A/B box to switch my les paul and telecaster, maybe I’ll also use it to switch between my two marshall tube amps. Now I’ve got a PDF schematic and layout, it looks like very simple to build. But I was once heard that there was somewhat an electrical risk if use this kind of simple switcher to A/B from two AMPs? is that true? I don’t want to blow myself when I playing guitar!
Yes, If you don’t carefully layout the ground circuit in your AB Box. You should make sure that when you select output A, the output B is ground. and when you select out B, the out A is ground.
