Andrew Wasson of Creative Guitar Studio answers a viewers question…
Q: I would like to ask you how to set up amplifiers for different purposes. I use a Fender Stratocaster and an Epiphone hollow body electric guitar I use a Fender Deluxe 50 Watts all tube amp. I also have a Line 6 POD which I use for effects. Can you explain to me how to approach setting my amp bass, treble, middle, presence, master levels.
1). In order to get a clean bright jazzy sound like George
Benson, or Wes Montgomery with my Epiphone?
2). To get a clean country style rhythm sound with my
Stratocaster?
3). To get a distorted or overdrive sound for a guitar solo
similar to; for example Foreigner, or David Gilmore?
4). Also would be interested in other sounds such as metal.
- Thanks,
David, Queens NY.
A: Pursuing sounds between; amps, guitars and effects units can be a long and often frustrating journey. And, just when you think you’ve got that perfect sound at home… You’ll get to the gig and your amp could mysteriously sound terrible. In this video I will discuss various common settings for; Country, Jazz, Rock and Metal.

http://www.premierguitar.com PG’s Acoustic Editor Gayla Drake Paul walks us through her latest review of the Vox AGA70 Acoustic guitar amplifier.
The AGA70 is ideal for the acoustic performer because it’s designed to perfectly project the subtle resonances and sweet, mellow tones of the acoustic guitar. Each of the two channels (Normal and Tube Pre) is equipped with a standard guitar input, as well as a microphone input with selectable phantom power. An electro-acoustic guitar or mic can be connected to each channel, making this the perfect amp for a singer-instrumentalist. An additional Lo-Z / Hi-Z switch on each input accommodates a variety of signal levels.
The Tube Pre channel preamp features a 12AU7 (ECC82) dual-triode vacuum tube.
In addition to Bass, Middle, and Treble tone controls, each channel provides an effective COLOR control. Working in harmony with the traditional EQ, the COLOR knob allows you to quickly shift the tonal response to match your performance. This additional control accommodates a broad variety of sounds ranging from thick and robust to sparkling and clean.
Also, it features onboard Reverb (both channels) and an on/off switch for a Chorus effect.

http://www.nevadamusic.co.uk/Guitar-Amplifiers-and-Speakers/Acoustic-Guitar-Amps/sc1584/p8749.aspx The Roland AC-33 is the worlds first battery-powered combo amp and has been designed and manufactured specifically for acoustic guitar. Portable yet powerful, the AC-33 provides true stereo sound, Guitar and Mic/Line channels, personally-configured effects, anti-feedback, and a Phrase Looper.
However this amp was made to go to places that amplifiers are traditionally not able to – I’m talking of course about using this amplifier outdoors .Thanks to its battery-power capability, the AC-33 lets you take your act anywhere and therefore this little power-house of an amplifier will appeal to buskers or perhaps those who need ultimate portability to their guitar rig.
The AC-33 provides 15 watts per channel resulting in 30 watts of stereo sound and can run on the optional A/C adapter or 8 x AA batteries. It has on-board reverb, chorus and ambience (spatial) effects along with a 38 second phrase looper. There’s also a stereo aux input for an MP3 player or similar and an anti-feedback function for if you attach a microphone, whilst the cabinet can be configured to stand in “kick-back” mode similar to a floor foldback monitor.
